📍 Performed at PandP Eindhoven
đź“… 21-30 May 2027
Shakespeare’s *A Mid Summer Night’s Dream* is a classic comedy in which love, illusion and reality become intertwined. ITCE will create a contemporary adaptation in which the original intrigues are framed by a frame narrative that comments on the romantic entanglements in the play.
The addition of this frame narrative creates a dialogue between the classic play and contemporary reality. The current experiences of Eindhoven’s residents are explicitly linked to the play’s themes. The central question is what place (romantic) love (still) holds in the year 2027. The fact that we will have an international and diverse cast means that cultural differences (regarding love and relationships) will also be a topic in the play.
The audience will initially think they are watching a conventional production of Shakespeare’s play, but it soon becomes clear that the performance centres on a theatre group seeking to put on a light-hearted show. To allow them to forget the serious problems of real life, if only for a moment. They believe there is a real need for this in the year 2027.
